The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is one of only five local nonprofit organizations that have been selected by Walmart to be a part of their Associates Choice Program in Oklahoma! With enough votes from our wonderful Walmart and Sam’s Club Associates, the Regional Food Bank could receive a generous $100,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation!
Associates at Walmart and Sam’s Club in Oklahoma will determine which organization receives the grant based upon their votes between July 9th and August 13th. If you’re a Walmart or Sam’s Club employee, please check with your store manager on the voting process or simply go to http://mywalmart.com to vote!
And Food Bank supporters, if you know Walmart and Sam’s Club Associates, please let them know about the work we’re doing in the community to fight hunger and encourage them to vote!
No matter which nonprofit organization you vote for, it will help someone in our local community – so please be sure to vote!
An additional $100,000 for the Regional Food Bank would make a significant impact on the lives of Oklahomans who are struggling to put food on their table. In fact, $100,000 will provide 700,000 meals to the community. That’s enough for three meals a day for nearly 2,000 families of four for an entire month!
The Regional Food Bank depends upon the generosity of its donors to carry out our mission of helping the charitable community effectively feed people in need. One special giving group, Partners in Hope, provide the Food Bank with sustainable funding which allows us to plan for the future and reach more of our neighbors in need in our 53 county service area. For example, right now we serve nearly 8,000 children in our Food 4 Kids program; we could double that if we knew the funding was available to add schools in the future.
Our Partners in Hope make a five year pledge to support the Food Bank and its mission. As the Development Manager, I get the opportunity to work with the humanitarians who are a part of this very special group. Today, I’d like to recognize one of our Partners in Hope, Lisa McConnell, who is really going above and beyond.
McConnell is a professor at Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma City. In addition to making a Partner in Hope pledge, she also brings her students on a tour of the Food Bank each year so that they can learn about the issue of hunger in Oklahoma. Last week, her Organizational Behavior Management class toured our facility and learned about the mission of the Regional Food Bank and how they could help make a difference.
Every year, this class also spearheads and coordinates the fall and spring food drives for the entire OSU@OKC campus. Last year, they raised over 3,700 pounds for the drives, and they are hoping to raise 4,500 this year!
Thank you Lisa McConnell for all you are doing to support the Regional Food Bank and our mission!
